Advancing Along Our Creative and Spiritual Journey at Prairiewoods

Monday, January 9, 16, 23, 30, 9:30–11 a.m. We all have it, you know, some sort of creative expression, whether we “just doodle” or we hold serious aspirations for ourselves as artists. What we can call a nearly universal truth is that every person has the gift to imagine. Prairiewoods (120 East Boyson Road in Hiawatha) will be offering a four-week class to explore our individual creative gifts of imagination on Monday mornings, beginning January 9. Students of the visual arts who are looking for ways to strengthen skills and hone talents are invited to attend. Bring your artwork in-progress to each class and receive the opportunity for professional review by artist and teacher Michelle Fischer. All visual artists are welcome, whether you are a beginner with curiosity or a gifted veteran. Bring a project to work on during class. Through her art, Michelle finds connections between her creative and spiritual journeys. She says that when she starts a new project, she spends lots of time with the “grind of intention,” only realizing spiritual inspiration as the project takes form. She adds that many other creative people find spiritual inspiration at the first inkling of a project. No matter which type you may be, we happen to agree with the message of the late M.C. (Mary Caroline) Richards, poet, potter, essayist, translator and painter who said, "Every person is a special kind of artist and every activity is a special art." In every culture and tradition, we find links between creativity and spirituality. Michelle will inspire you to further your creative journey, learning more about the artistic process and sharpening your senses in the elements and principles of design. In doing so, there is a good chance that you, too, will make a personal connection between your creativity and spirituality. This is part of the Finding Meaning through Creativity series at Prairiewoods. The cost is $15 per session or $51 for the four-week series. Class size will be limited to ten people, so please register early by contacting Andrea Jilovec at Prairiewoods at 319-395-6700, ext. 202, or ajilovec@prairiewoods.org. Learn more about artist/instructor Michelle Fischer by visiting her website at www.artlistens.com. For more information, visit www.prairiewoods.org.
